Great Tool For Bibliophiles (Read, Remember, Recommend)

A great tool for bibliophiles is the reading Journal Read, Remember, Recommend by Rachelle Rogers Knight.

It is absolutely wonderful. It has an award section that lists all of the award-winning books for each year after the award first came out. Some of the awards included are Pulitzer, National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction, Governor General’s Literary Award, Man Booker Prize for Fiction and many, many more. This section also includes poetry awards as well, so if poetry is your thing you have all of the notables at your fingertips. One of the reason’s this feature is so great is if you finish a book and don’t know what else to read there is a huge list of books to choose from.

The next section in the journal is the section called “to read”  it is a 10 page list for books you want to read. It has a space to record the title, author, notes and then a place to check off if you’ve read it, own it (or want to own it), and if you’d recommend it. This also comes in handy when you are looking for new books to read. If you bring it with you like I do it allows you to write down your wish list as titles pop up so you never again forget what it was you wanted to read.

The next section is “journal pages” in the section you make a list of books you have read and put the date that you finished it and then there is also spaces for you to record more info on the book. it has a place to write if you’d recommend it , your reason for reading it and spaces for comments and thoughts on the book. Also in this section are expanded notes sections that allow for more comments like a words to define section and a pages to remember section and a longer comments and thoughts section. I love this section because I forget what i have read easily so if I take some notes it not only helps me remember the book longer but also remember some of the specifics. This portion is great for people in Book Clubs because you can write down what you want to discuss.

Then comes the “Recommendations” section where you can record what you have recommended to other people. this is nice because now you won’t be bombarding your friends with the same book recommendation every time you see them. This is followed by the section called “Loaner lists” so you can keep track of who you have lent books to and who you have borrowed boos from so that you can get your books back and don’t keep other people’s books.

The final section is called “resources” and like the title says has great online book related resources.

I would definitely recommend this journal to anyone as scatter-brained as me and anyone else who reads. It is a great tool!

Getting Lost in a Great Story

I love reading. My idea of the perfect day is curling up in a comfy chair with a fire going and getting lost in a good book. I have to finish a book once I start because I get so wrapped up in the story that I often lose track of time and won’t put the book down until I turn the last page. Then for the next week or so I find myself daydreaming about the book, how I would make the story different, what would happen to the characters after the last page, what would I be like in the story… I love it when authors can create a world that grabs me on the first page and won’t let me go even after I have finished the book.
